Pros

My tenure at SmithBucklin is just shy of two years and each day that I come to work, I’m more thankful than the next that I am fortunate enough to work for such an amazingly generous company. I don’t mean this in just a monetary way. Although how many companies reward their employees when they have a good year delivering successes to clients?! SmithBucklin does…with a new Ipad Air and an added bonus! What I am referring to is the countless opportunities that it offers its employees to develop, learn and improve both personally and professionally. Senior management is strong, in-tune, and always steers the company with sound and judicious decisions. As an employee owner (we are an ESOP and I own shares) I couldn’t be more proud and pleased with their efforts.

Cons

(I don’t think of this as a con)This is a fast paced work environment and not for those who don’t want to roll up their sleeves and work. However, hard work and dedication never goes unnoticed at SmithBucklin.

Pros

SmithBucklin offers employees a vast number of opportunities to learn and grow. The model here allows you to advance within your specific area of responsibility, or explore opportunities in new areas. It is a fast-paced and challenging environment, but in return you are able to work with high-level individuals in a diverse range of professions at a very early point in your working life, and build relationships and skills that you can carry with you throughout your career.

Cons

Work-life balance can be somewhat challenging during busy times. While SmithBucklin is a for-profit company, all clients are nonprofit and may have resource challenges that require flexibility on the part of staff.

Pros

SmithBucklin hires very smart and talented people who are always willing to share their knowledge. The company gives employees the opportunity to develop themselves professionally (which includes promotions within) and personally which I have not found at other companies I have worked for. Managers do not micromanage and handhold employees but they are always there to answer questions and/or provide guidance. You own your career, which can be a pro or a con. If you are not comfortable asking for new projects or tasks that you are interested in, how to develop within your career and move up within the company and be proactive in soliciting feedback from your team and supervisors, then this may not be a company for you. Employees are able to get a lot of exposure to senior management very early in their career. Every day is different in terms of work.

Cons

While I really enjoy the culture of SmithBucklin it can be hard to grasp and acclimate to; it is not for everyone, which is okay. The benefits are good but the pay and bonuses are lower than other industries. You need to be a team player and be okay with not always working independently in certain units as people really like to collaborate. Again this can be a pro or a con but this is a fast-paced environment and employees have to be able to multitask and ask for help when needed as we work with multiple clients and have a lot of work and deadlines to juggle for each client.
