Pros

- Teamwork oriented, no cutthroat competition between employees - Leadership genuinely listens and acts on suggestions from employees, unless relating to pay - Friendly culture, albeit somewhat old fashioned - No shame for taking vacation. If you set boundaries for your work-life balance they will generally be respected. - Management is caring and helpful for most groups - Infrequent layoffs - Great lateral mobility

Cons

- Annual raises do not keep up with inflation in recent years, effectively resulting in pay cuts - Pay does not reflect the increasing local cost of living. If we do not address this, we WILL lose our younger talent to employers that do. - Very few federal holidays off compared to most companies, but the week-long winter break somewhat justifies this. -Splintering of departments in the last 5-10 years has caused less variety and fewer new experiences for members of a given team - Employees are made to feel guilty for receiving an annual bonus because this cuts into Caterpillar's profits - Less concrete appreciation for employees in the last 10 years. Profitability is obviously needed to make a business run, but the focus on increasing profits while ignoring employee satisfaction has grown to such a noticeable level that people are losing their sense of loyalty to the company.
