Pros

Friendly Senior Management Pay is ok Efforts to make Sonoco a Great place to work

Cons

Enhancing Organizational Communication and Emotional Intelligence at Sonoco Sonoco has established itself as a company focused on operational efficiency and business growth. However, feedback from acquired businesses and internal teams suggests that improvements are needed in corporate communication, departmental collaboration, and leadership’s approach to transitions. Addressing these concerns can strengthen employee engagement, retention, and overall workplace culture. Key Areas for Improvement - HR Accessibility and Employee Experience Employees have reported that Human Resources can be difficult to work with, particularly when addressing concerns related to mergers, plant closures, and company-wide transitions. A potential solution is to implement HR accessibility initiatives, such as streamlined support systems, feedback channels, and transparent policy communication, ensuring employees feel heard and supported. - Interdepartmental Collaboration Some departments within Sonoco do not work well together, creating inefficiencies and internal miscommunication. Improving cross-functional teamwork through interdepartmental workshops, clearer communication protocols, and unified leadership strategies could resolve bottlenecks and foster a more collaborative corporate environment. - Approach to Plant Closures Employees have expressed concerns that Sonoco leadership appears too comfortable closing plants without providing adequate support for affected workers. While closures may be a necessary business decision, increasing transparency, offering proactive career transition programs, and prioritizing employee well-being would help mitigate the negative impact and maintain trust within the organization. - Integration Strategies for New Acquisitions When integrating a new business, employees feel there is little sympathy for the lives being affected. Establishing structured support programs, mentorship opportunities, and onboarding initiatives for employees of acquired companies can smooth the transition and provide clarity during mergers. - Emotional Intelligence in Leadership Sonoco leadership has been described as business-focused, with little emotional intelligence used in decision-making. While operational efficiency is crucial, an increased emphasis on employee-centered leadership, open communication forums, and empathy-based decision-making can enhance corporate culture and employee morale. Recommended Approach To address these areas effectively, Sonoco can benefit from: - Partnering with a consulting group to assess workplace culture and leadership responsiveness. - Standardizing acquisition and closure protocols to ensure consistency and empathy in transition processes. - Implementing emotional intelligence training for leadership to improve engagement and feedback reception. - Developing structured employee support systems during company-wide changes, such as mergers and plant closures. By focusing on communication, collaboration, employee support, and emotional intelligence, Sonoco can build a workplace that values both operational success and employee well-being.

Pros

Had admin for over a week show me how to complete job. Amazing supervisor who reached out to me the day before telling me where to go and what time to show up. Great IT set up on first day Amazing, friendly people to work with.

Cons

No job description No direct contact with HR, just to-dos from Simon. No training with systems that I will be using other than what admin showed me. New to Sonoco, so don't know anything about who works where or who to contact about things I need assistance on. Was not told frequency of payroll,
