Pros

You have to be very creative to perform well under so heavy boundaries. It is a great brain exercise.

Cons

Be proactive is said to be a core value in theory. In practice everything needs to go under centralized committees. Ideas get killed under such heavy bureaucracy. Be adaptable is said to be a core value in theory. In practice things are requested to be planned with many months in advance with low adaptability to inner or outer conditions. Blind way of driving. Be professional is said to be a core value in theory. In practice professional trainings are a one time event. Very scarce. Be accountable is said to be a core value in theory. In practice works as a one way street from last centuries way of leading. Outdated nowadays.

Let me start by saying I appreciate your feedback. In a rapidly expanding business like ours, I believe strong values are absolutely fundamental to achieving long-term success. Sovos values guide how we behave and act, collectively and individually. They shape the culture and define the personality of our organization. Nothing is more important to me. Unfortunately, your experience is not up to our standards. This is unacceptable to me. I’d like to learn more about your views. I encourage you to schedule time to discuss your thoughts with me personally. Until then, let me address your comments directly. Our core values are based on the behaviors exhibited by our most successful people. We use our values as a lens for hiring and performance management. Our values are enduring and meant to be acted upon thereby shaping the culture and defining the personality of our organization. Be Proactive -- Our flat org structure and collaborative environment is designed to allow you to take action to solve problems, work proactively, address issues as they arise, and see your ideas in action. It’s perhaps the value most unique to Sovos. While some controls are important in an organization of our scale, we want your voice to be heard. Be Adaptable -- In a market that is changing dynamically under our feet, we must be both visionary and nimble enough to respond quickly. The nature of our industry requires a balance of thoughtful planning and highly adaptable execution. It sounds like we should give you more visibility into how we achieve this balance. Be Professional -- We invest heavily in providing education and are adding more programs and systems to support personal development. It isn’t a completely altruistic pursuit. We believe there is a direct relationship between personal growth and organizational performance. I’d encourage you to spend some time learning about available professional education programs by speaking with your manager or local HR contact. Be Accountable – To me, there is no more important behavior than accountability. We believe organizational performance improves when people take greater accountability and ownership for results. We further believe our organization will not succeed in the long run unless people assume accountability for achieving desired results. If you have examples where we haven’t lived up to this core principle, I want to learn more. Our values are at the core of everything we do so I take the issues you raise seriously. It’s important to me that we consistently demonstrate behavior aligned with the organization’s core values. I hope you’ll reach out to me to discuss with the intent of making sure our company’s actions match our words. - Andy

Pros

Very intelligent environment, smart people - exposure to current technologies.

Cons

Masketing hype exceeds reality - well chosen wording in postings belies that staff is treated as disposable units - no attempt to assist in re-gearing for existing positions.

Thanks for taking the time to provide your feedback. I’m sorry you left here with a negative impression of Sovos, but I’d like to take a few minutes to address your comments. I have to say I agree with your thoughts on Sovos being an intelligent environment with smart people. We work hard to ensure that we hire the best and brightest, and that our culture and values promote an environment where people of that caliber can thrive and grow. I also appreciate that you recognize our work to leverage current technologies. Thanks for the positive feedback on what you think we are doing well! I am sorry to hear that you feel the team is treated poorly. We invest a lot of time and energy in training, onboarding and educating all of our people. I’m disappointed that you didn’t perceive that to be the case, and we’d love to hear more about your experience directly so we can learn. We truly believe that our people are the most critical component in our success, though do actively look for culture fit and talent over experience because we’ve found it’s the best indicator of success. That being said though, we aim to strike the optimal balance between talented people early in their career and seasoned individuals who can guide and direct our teams by virtue of their experience. While we certainly don’t always operate with perfect balance, we are conscious of those imperfections in team makeup and strive to make adjustments where necessary. Again, I’m sorry to hear that your experience here at Sovos wasn’t what you thought it should be. I appreciate you taking the time to provide your feedback, and wish you all the best in your next challenge. - Chris

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are disappointed to hear you feel this way about the Sovos management team. As an active employee, we encourage you to talk with your Manager, Senior Leader, or a member of our Executive team to more proactively address your concerns. From working at Sovos, you know employee engagement is very important to us. You have had the opportunity to complete our engagement survey as a way to share what you think we should continue doing well and what we need to improve on. As we shared with you in our All Hands meeting, 80% of our employees felt that their manager helped them grow in their role. You are also invited to participate in focus groups, new development programs, as well as our CLOUD Rotation program. We strongly believe in “Be Collaborative” as one of our core values and we hope you believe in it too. Certainly all employees and managers should support, appreciate, and recognize team members for their contributions and individual perspectives. Again, thank you for your feedback and if you would like to discuss your concerns further, please don’t hesitate to contact your local HR Associate or a member of our Leadership team.
