      A hard gig, but really meaningful work

      Pros

      "You get two weeks to say you're new, and then you're the expert." That was one of the first things I heard, and it was true -- for the responsibilities, for the amount of work, and for the consequences. You're working with incredibly bright people on some really tricky problems that always need an answer yesterday; and you'll eventually get proficient in the race between accuracy, rigor, and time. But people almost always have the right end-goal in mind; and they don't let ego or schedule drive best engineering practice and judgment.

      Cons

      The pressure is pretty intense, and it takes a lot of willpower to enforce a work-life balance -- it's manageable, but barely.

      Pros

      I struggle to even think of a company doing something as exciting. The sense of purpose and urgency both are evident in every team here. Being part of an incredibly talented group singly focused on the promise of Mars is definitely a unique experience. That said, the daily grind is not all hollywood sci-fi and rocket launches. The day-to-day work is hard and sometimes tedious. It's usually satisfying and rewarding though.

      Cons

      - Burnout is real. Management seems tuned in to it though, and wants to make sure you're okay, but I wish it didn't happen at all. - The pace can seem both way too fast when demands are made of you, and glacially slow when waiting for the rest of the company to move forward (eg. return to flight).

      Pros

      Lots of overtime opportunity Perks - free coffee, free/low-cost healthcare, subsidized meals Time off, you get a lot, but might be able to use it when you want

      Cons

      Long hours - if you're looking for a good "work-life balance" this won't be a good f it. I came here specifically for the fact that there is an endless amount of work and most of my co-workers think the same way Constantly changing Few, but influential toxic people - lots of people have adopted a negative view and I have noticed it is a few influential low-level people spreading these sentiments, it's a drag.
