Pros

The people you work with are the best part about SpaceX. All people at all levels (senior managers, leads, engineers, technicians, etc) are very smart and very motivated. The pace of development is extremely fast which keeps things exciting. Lots of autonomy, never have been micromanaged, people are empowered to make their own decisions for the good of the company. You get to work on the coolest rockets and spacecraft ever made. Generally well-compensated for hard work and going above and beyond (although this definitely varies between groups)

Cons

Extreme work hours and demand to be “on call” 24/7. There is no escape from work. This is classic spacex and part of the reason why the company works so fast, but leads to burnout and the legendary high turnover. Most groups are chronically understaffed which causes constant chaos and problems which are only solved by working unsustainable hours.

Pros

Dedicated coworkers. No BS engineering environment where the best ideas win. The company is very good at making employees feel their work is appreciated, meaningful, and important to the common goal of colonizing Mars.

Cons

SpaceX is scaling up everything we do and as such, many aspects of the company start to lean toward a mass production company and less of an innovative / developmental. This will come eventually hurt morale as people generally do not want to work in a production company for 50-60 hrs / week. A lot of people only do production and reliability, where opportunities for creativity is more limited.

Pros

Excellent team. Interesting work. Flexible hours. Not restrictive in regards to how to solve engineering problems as long as the physics works. Fast paced. Can do attitude. Very positive and engaging environment. Lots of testing to prove analytical predictions. Being involved in ground breaking engineering. Very little red tape.

Cons

Long hours when deadlines need to be met.
