Pros

This was the best company I ever worked for! Amazing people, great benefits, enjoyable work, work from literally anywhere, great company culture, felt taken care of and appreciated. That was all before the switch to J2 Global

Cons

After new leadership and internal changes, everything went to hell. Amazing employees that had given so much to this company for years were thrown to the dogs. Laid off an entire department and multiple people from other departments and outsourced everything to India. Made us feel like they cared for their employees and then showed their true colors. This company will not value you in the long run and will replace you in the blink of an eye with someone from India. Avoid at all costs!

Pros

I've worked at Spiceworks for 5 years and have experienced a lot through its many chapters. When I joined it was a late stage start-up and very much had a people first culture under the founders' leadership. Luckily, this has resulted in a positive hiring strategy that has stuck around throughout the years and does a great job at filtering out the bad apples. You will work with some of the smartest and best people in the world - which is very tough to find! Alongside that, SWZD is now a work from anywhere company which gives you lots of flexibility when it comes to where and when you work. They also provide a robust benefits package with a stock purchase plan and matching 401k. Finally, I will say that lower and mid level managers are generally folks that truly care and want you to succeed. They don't always have a ton of control, but are willing to work hard to help ensure your experience is positive.

Cons

Since Spiceworks was acquired by J2/Ziff Davis, there has been a cultural shift away from people and huge shift towards profits. As a publicly traded company, I completely understand the need to focus on profits for our shareholders; however, it has come at the sacrifice of the culture SW was built upon . This manifests itself in many ways, but often they like to save on costs by not backfilling departing team members and expecting the same or better results from the impacted team. This ends up burning out some really good people. Additionally, if you join the Revenue team, you will most certainly become frustrated with the business' lack of ability to hold sales accountable for doing their job correctly. Unfortunately this isn't a new problem as it has been prevalent for over 5 years. If you are in sales, enjoy the freedom you receive. Those working with sales will most certainly find frustration working with an employer who bends to the wishes or persistent complaints of sales team members and their leadership.

As always, we appreciate your input. With any merger/acquisition there will be change. It is our goal to make those changes as minimal as possible but being mindful of the business needs. The year 2020 brought many companies challenges that were unexpected. Our company made the decision that they would do all that they could so that employees would not lose their jobs. This decision meant not backfilling roles, cutting expenses, and doing what we could to keep the business in a good place. We recognize that this caused employees to take on additional work and appreciate all those efforts. As we come out of the pandemic and have a better understanding of the environment we will do what we can to hire employees for those critical roles. We have a new CRO who is evaluating our Sales Team and the current processes. Our goal is “for all teams to work as One Team”.

Great people, snacks, paid maternity/paternity leave

Cons

Broken communication, no feedback provided, it's primarily a sales org and everything is about getting the dollars
