Pros

Would have had a lot to say about a year ago.

Cons

Management don't have any idea of where they are heading. Too many acquizitions, reorgs and "stealthy" lay offs to not tip off retained employees and affect already low stock price. Work is like weekend college assignment. Only a bunch of meaningless improvs to current products that get portrayed as "really cool" features. PM are more worried about which pub to crawl then about their products.

We’re both disappointed and sorry to hear that this was your experience at Splunk. All employees—no matter their level or department—are encouraged to be open and honest in their communications, and we welcome all feedback good, bad or indifferent. We also pride ourselves on offering Splunkers a work environment that’s both challenging and rewarding, driven largely by our employees’ passion for our products and our customers.

Pros

Solid technology, product works as advertised. Solid install base and user community. Offices stacked with plenty of refreshments and snacks. Free lunches on Mondays and free breakfast in Fridays.

Cons

Grew too fast which resulted in the erosion of the team oriented, startup culture. A purely hierarchical corporate environment now, management does not take kind to employees that may have different approaches or ideas. Some managers are entirely ego driven and vindictive... will poll other employees to get negative information on a targeted individual; for the purposes of generating a bad review. Once the paper trail gets rolling, including goals that are unrealistic to obtain in a specific timeframe, it's a matter of time before that individual is forced out.

Pros

Food Pay The office has been expanded and there are plans to make a nice California office in Cupertino

Cons

I've worked in Enterprise software sales for over 20 years. People who say Splunk is a great place to work are either lying or delusional. Really stupid, truly stupid, arrogant people work at this company. Management is absolutely awful. There's been major turnover from top to bottom. A kind of toxic environment has emerged because what was once a hot product has become harder and harder to sell because of it's expensive price tag and the broad competition from open source, and much simpler and elegant solutions. Period. Quotas are absolutely ridiculous. Probably 5 years ago it was a good place to work. But these days you should skip it - or at least know what you are walking into. Fear and intimidation are the only tactics left.
