Absolute Sham of a Company

Pros

There were many, many pros up until myself and 120 others were laid off completely out of nowhere.

Cons

The CEO and upper management are completely out of their minds. It is truly staggering to think that these people "planned" for five years to launch an e-commerce brand only to shutter it out of nowhere after 4 months. All upper management are home grown kool-aid drinkers; they can do no wrong in their eyes and all of these little "bumps" (aka people they're screwing over) are just obstacles on their way to "glory". As another reviewer pointed out, one week we were getting the whole "we're still on track, we had some hiccups but big things are ahead" all hands meeting and then the next week the entire team is laid off, not by the CEO because he has absolutely no honor or empathy, but by his CTO henchman who could not have been any more disingenuous with his little lay off speech. Brett and co showed a complete and utter disregard for everybody who put their heart and soul into this product for the last year. They truly make Elizabeth Holmes look good in comparison.

Broke as a joke

Pros

Yada yada yada ...best people I've ever worked with... blah blah blah they don't care. They did grill me a cheese sandwich once. And had lots of arts and crafts and games. The teachers were nice for the most part.

Cons

Nobody truly knows what is going on. I wouldn't recommend this job to a mortal enemy much less a friend. Entry level position with a higher turnover rate than any job I've ever had. They cancelled our field trip and took away our ability to go to the bathroom right away. We had to post in a department wide chat and wait for a manager to like the post before you were allowed to go...I wish I were joking. Then when they did away with that rule they assured us it was because.. they trust us...lol. It was the most uplifting moment to regain management's trust to use the restroom upon one's own recognition and not immediately alert 10-20 people that you were on the verge of a bowel movement. I could go on and on and on and on and on about how much my mental health was grinded down working in their internet coalmine but I'll leave it at I've never worked at a more mismanaged establishment and I wouldn't recommend this job to a single person on earth. My only semi enjoyable memories towards the end were laughing at management's decisions. Hopefully people can see through all these fake 5 star reviews I'm seeing. To the people who wrote them, I can smell your noses from here.

Pros

Almost everything people post on here that I've read is generally true. The people you will work with are great, some of the hardest working and friendliest people I have met period. If you are even the tiniest bit social you will make friends easily here. You can get hired on with minimal experience and build your resume extremely well For anyone applying here you have to understand that this is the thing that leads to the other thing, not the end game. Spreetail also does encourage community action and bettering, and whatever the actual goal of that is the point remains there are people living in terrible conditions that have been made better because of this company. That is commendable Pay is decent for software but below competitive in other areas of the company.

Cons

Senior leadership is severely lacking. Anyone who claims to have a full picture is probably lying or making assumptions but the main points are that no one at the top has any idea what they are doing. Priorities can change day to day, sometimes with no effect to the department sometimes with gigantic impact. There does not seem to even be a goal anymore since the layoffs, not that there really was one to begin with other than "make more money." On the subject of layoffs, telling 124 people they are fired with less than a days notice and in the next breath telling news outlets we are still hiring is not okay. I don't know what the strategy was here but no one at this company views their job as completely safe and there is a high chance people in certain departments are now going to be looking out for themselves at the expense of others. Absolutely no one at the top was held accountable. Even if you accept that this was the correct course of action, firing the people who are part of the problem without removing a single person behind the creation of that time is pointless. It won't do a thing to stop it from happening again. At least 2/3 of the people who come in with significant experience are touted by the company as a "huge get" but leave within the year after Bret micromanages them to death. "Spreetail is not for everyone." Bret seemed to say this in some moment of clarity and must have loved how it sounded because he said it several more times after that as well. When your answer for any legitimate question about work/life balance or turnover boils down to "if you don't like it here you can leave" you can get an idea for the kind of "feedback" he is willing to listen to.
