I work in the Cardiovascular OR at St. Peter’s and genuinely appreciate the clinical team I work with — dedicated, smart, and mission-driven. However, one of the most frustrating and demoralizing issues here is the unfair and seemingly retaliatory parking policy targeting our department. The Mercy Lot, which is the closest and most logical place for emergency surgical staff to park, is off-limits to us — not because it’s full (it’s more than half empty even during peak hours), but because of what appears to be a personal conflict between the security department and the CVOR team. Other departments, even those not on emergency call, are still allowed to park there with no issue. Meanwhile, we’re forced to park far away in the contractor lot, which is full of nails, uneven ground, and poor lighting. Staff have had flat tires, safety concerns, and even felt harassed walking to their cars — all while a perfectly usable lot sits mostly vacant. The fact that this has become a power struggle instead of a practical discussion about supporting emergency services is deeply disappointing. We come in at all hours for life-saving cases, and it’s hard to feel valued when basic support like safe, nearby parking is denied over internal politics.
