Pros

• Autonomous checkout has great potential for positive societal impact. • Many interesting and fun engineering challenges. • Good compensation and opportunity to work remotely. • Some bright people.

Cons

• Decisions to hire, fire, and promote seemed to be based more on politics than merit. • Upper management was opaque and out of touch with people lower in the hierarchy. • The HR team lacked expertise in psychology and how to rationally use data to inform policy. • Domain experts were heeded less than they should have been. • Certain technical personnel lacked sophistication. This is a young and dynamic company. It is very possible they will fix these problem or have already. Just be sure to ask a lot of questions and get a clear picture before deciding whether to join.

Pros

Good team of ICs and an interesting problem for engineers to tackle. Well funded.

Cons

Horrible culture, full of politics and backstabbing. Absolutely no career advancement or mobility. Incompetent and clueless middle management. Hostile work environment with no consequences. Almost no communication between teams, constant confusion.

Pros

- Working from home, flexibility. - Freedom of hours. Get the work done approach. - Competitive pay for startups. - Friendly and smart peers. - 10 year stock options exercise period compared to just 90-days-post-exit for most other startups.

Cons

- Slow progress in last 6 months on perfecting some aspects of the autonomous checkout technology. But the company is undergoing / likely to undergo some leadership changes in a positive way. - Compare it with other bay area large public companies - cash compensation is lower
