Pros

There is a lot of momentum at Standard. The company works in an exciting space, the product is finding a lot of buzz in the market, and the company is growing rapidly for the next phase of expansion. If you like challenging tech problems and the intersection of AI, computer vision and real-world problems, this is great company at which to work.

Cons

Growing pains as the company goes through a period of growth (many new faces, which is both a good thing and can be challenging to absorb). Still more work than people, which can cause stress and long hours (but it is a startup after all).

Pros

- Interesting technology and work. Novel ML/Computer Vision research, challenging engineering in scalable infrastructure - Many smart and talented coworkers - Retail tech industry is heating up, growth opportunity is substantial. Technology has gotten sophisticated enough to make really interesting features possible - Market position is good, well funded among competitors (and well positioned as an alternative to Amazon for competing retailers eager to avoid them) - Benefits are impressive. Health/Dental/etc are top notch, 401k plan (though no match), generous PTO - Pay is good for a startup, though don't expect FAANG. Equity might make up for it, but hard to value. Option grants have permissive 10yr duration - Remote work is nice

Cons

- Inter-team communication needs improvement - Remote work can be challenging with long timezone differences - Balancing business needs and engineering capacity doesn't always work out. Sometimes have to crunch to make a demo or installation work on unrealistic timelines - Sometimes too many layers between leadership and IC's. Devolves into games of telephone I'm optimistic for the company's outlook. The workplace has improved during my time here, especially toxic people have been let go. Two new executives have been brought on, and so far they seem to be providing good guidance, structure, and direction to the company. It's not perfect of course, but there seems to be an earnest effort in improving in many aspects
