Pros

The shop floor personnel are some of the finest men and women I've had the pleasure to work with. A few within the upper managing body have their heads on straight, though their logic and expertise are sidelined by an oppressive pursuit of growth and profit, but more on that later. StandardAero has the framework of a great company in place and they have huge growth potential; it may carry them far if they don't grow too quickly or fall flat by their own hands.

Cons

Morale is lower than it has ever been and the revolving door is spinning off of its pivot as members of management prove nearsighted and lead from behind. Written policy and work instructions are laughably vague while new rules are barked orally or via email with the ever-looming threat of "disciplinary action." There has been a disturbing shift in priority to haste over quality during the last six months. Inspectors and machinists are browbeaten with the demand for greater efficiency. Meanwhile, their training programs are appalling. Recurrent training for things such as safety are resigned to, "here's a printout of a PowerPoint, see it? Yeah? Sign here, you're trained," while OJT is carried out by employees who themselves are mere weeks or months inside the company doors and who are simultaneously berated for poor numbers. If their training had a semblance of structure or depth, times would improve by extension; it would be a non-issue, but middle management concern themselves with lesser matters. Rather than trusting their people, expected job completion targets were deliberately hidden from employees with the excuse that they were being abused by some. Digging them up has shown that they are in utter disarray at best or adjusted to artificially drive down turnaround times at worst. There is no way to gauge one's own performance except by minute to minute bickering. My supervisor has used efficiency as a bargaining chip, making what I took to be a threat that I would not see a raise if it did not improve. How can one improve with no solid baseline and no transparency? The grievances are many, and most have arisen with the induction of new management as they play Musical Chairs.
