Pros

When you work at Stanford you get to work with some of the brightest children in the world. Good benefits!

Cons

Stanford is very much its own little world. You will fit in best if you are willing to stick to their rules.

Pros

Lots of latitude; largely hands-off management; "entrepreneurial" -- meaning movement between positions and opportunity for your ideas to get a hearing; good salary

Cons

Situated in an very expensive area so the good salary is essential. Layers and layers of management; a very large bureaucracy, where infrastructural changes happen slowly. Not sure this is any worse than any other large university. There's a monument to Herbert Hoover in the middle of the place...Herbert Hoover! But seriously, few cons at all.
