Pros

Lots of opportunities to move within organization Big push for people to become salespeople Good benefits Financially strong company

Cons

Started as a family-oriented company with a nurturing environment. One of core values to 'develop people,' which is really just lip service. When it comes time to help people grow and develop, people will always fall below the No. 1 State Farm priority of making a profit. They are trying to reinvent themselves to be more like Progressive, and are losing their core values in the process. It's become a dog-eat-dog, giant corporation. People are clamoring for survival, chewing each other up just to hang onto their own rung. Ethics and integrity have been thrown out the window.

Pros

Many different career opportunities Great work-life balance Can't beat the job stability Total compensation package is great, especially these days (salary, performance cash, pension, 401k, healthcare, discounts, state farm park)

Cons

Many areas in Systems have incompetent employees who were put in their positions from other departments in the company, back in the 1990s. Instead of letting go of or moving these type of employees out of Systems, they are often just moved around from team to team. This causes more knowledgeable and driven employees to be unable to move into the Systems department where they would be more valuable. The company is often times very slow/conservative in decision making which causes them to lag behind the competition. However, this culture has begun to change in the last 3 years from the top down.
