Pros

I received Salary plus a small commission on new business. This is great if you are willing to get paid based on what you produce. Most offices are small and have a family feel which is great if you need an extra half hour to take a kid to the doctor.

Cons

As a producer you are employed by the Agent, not State Farm. Most Agents do not offer any benefits even though they sell Health and Investment products. If you are climbing the corporate ladder, this is not for you.

Pros

State Farm is a stable, albeit, slow moving company. They are reticent to dead wood employees, so if you're willing to follow the company's lead, you will always have a job.

Cons

The current agency program is a mess and I anticipate the program will be changed in the near future. The company is rife with nepotism and in terms of agents who are assigned books of business, who you know is everything. Production is rewarded separate of ethical behavior and sales promotions encourage gaming of the system.
