Pros

Relatively stable place to work, however it seems sometimes to promote work avoiders into management while keeping hard workers stuck in their roles. State Farm puts a huge emphasis on perception--even if that perception is deception. Hard, reliable workers should be rewarded with promotion while those who play golf with management and somehow get promoted should not be. That's why I feel State Farm has had trouble growing and maintaining its market share--because it has been managing my perception and not reality.

Cons

The number of employees has decreased over the past ten years, so there is less opportunity for advancement.

Pros

Good learning experience. The opportunity to earn bonuses. Beautiful office environment. The assistants make cookies every day. They smell good.

Cons

Very cold atmosphere (figuratively and literally). Upper management does not see employees (customer service in particular) as anything but moneymakers for him- and if you don't oblige to his ridiculous standards you will face his wrath. Very hectic work day, which is supposed to finish at 5pm- but rarely does, employees stay as late as 8 with no additional compensation. A very micromanaged environment that I used to dread going in every day for.

Pros

Stable company; Fairly flexible in terms of work/life balance (with the right management); Decent, comparable pay for the industry; Excellent promotion of industry education/personal development; Benefits are OK (Have seen better/worse);

Cons

Difficult to move up/out within the company if not mobile; Job positions available may not be the best fit for abilities; Have seen instances of favoritism in job selection; Company makes counterproductive decisions sometimes and is reactive as opposed to proactive (technology, agency force, claims handling); Burnout is common for claims employees with no remedy other than quitting if you cannot get your foot in the door outside of claims; Would not recommend taking a desk call center claims job based upon my experience. Very stressful job with little to no enjoyable or fulfilling moments;
