Pros

State Farm is a great place to work the people are friendly and the management teams are very supportive in training you to advance your career in the area you are interested

Cons

The only downside ive found in the year ive been here is that the CSSS ( Mangers ) are only in the position for 2 years and then they have to move up in the career or move back down to the position they were before and once you get to know your manager its time for them to move on. However the upside to this is that other people interested can also advance in their career to become a CSSS.

Pros

Friendly, relaxed atmosphere. Not drastically affected by economic trends and not controlled by stock owners. Can be affected by major weather, natural disasters (hurricanes, brushfires, earthquakes, etc). A company many people stay with for the long haul. Many accounts of people leaving for other "opportunities" only to return. Large corporate environment offering many, many opportunities for different jobs, career path. Excellent well-funded retirement plan. Modern IT campus. Need to work overtime rare.

Cons

Extremely conservative company that tails the fortune 500 in workplace changes. Sparse vacation offering, average benefits. Implemented a casual dress policy Dec '07. Weak 401K contributions. Does not recognize same-sex domestic partner benefits of any kind. Slow to recognize, acknowledge workplace trends, customer segments, minority/sub-cultures. Implementing major projects usually like running through molasses while repeatedly slamming your thumb with a hammer. IT workforce a combination 30% very talented, competent tech, 30% housewives, and 30% incompetent "yes men" in financial holes so deep, they are stepping on each other climbing the corporate money ladder because they had one too many divorces and/or "oops" kids that they suddenly realized will need (a) alimony and/or (b) college educations.

Pros

#1. I am proud of the work that I get to do. We are there to help our policyholders and do the right thing. #2 The people I get to work with. It is like a family. #3 My career and development are highly supported. Whatever changes have taken place, I have always been taken care of. #4 If you work hard, you have a career you can count on. They have never just cut people, or laid off to cut expenses. Every change or transition has taken place over long periods of time giving people time to find other jobs in the company.

Cons

Mobility is required to move to upper levels of management.
