Pros
I started working for State Farm right out of college. Have worked on a variety of teams and projects in 3.5 years, some good and some bad. There are a lot of great developers at this company working to make it a better place to develop software. Things are changing slowly here and you can find some interesting projects to work on if you are talented and motivated. Overall, I am pretty content working here long term. It’s a good company, I just wish the pay was a little more competitive for the metro area. - Work-life balance (overtime discouraged) - small salary increase + bonus each year based on performance - low stress - job security - pension
Cons
- salary - Work from home policy is “as needed” (basically discouraged from top down but can be flexible depending on first line manager) - tech stack, security policies, process, & hardware for developers are all pretty behind
