Amazing coworkers and work-life balance
Pros
Amazing coworkers and managers: Smart, empathetic, collaborative, embrace challenges. Work-life balance: Flexible and respectful of people's lives outside of work. Engineering culture: Fellow engineers care about building a strong engineering culture together and in collaboration with partners. People take initiative to volunteer efforts in this direction even when resources are not being allocated for it. There are many female engineers here, even in more senior roles, which is unusual.
Cons
Churn and missing context: Leadership is often changing. Teams, priorities, and direction are not often stable. Many people are leaving the company lately. A lot of historical context about code and product decisions has been lost without much documentation to help newcomers onboard. Lately some decisions have not had strong ROI or business value data to back them up. It has been a repeating pattern that we are stretched thin over several "quick wins" or broader efforts that do not have significant ROI, instead of focusing on a smaller number of deeper problems we need to address.
