Pros

Suffolk has hired some good people recently.

Cons

So much training is required that people are often trying to figure out when they can find the time to do the job they were actually hired to do. Shortage of staff on projects which in combination with the unusually high level of standard operating procedures makes most people work 12 to 14 hour days plus weekends. Work/life balance is a gimmick for show and doesn't truly exist. If you have a family or even just value spending time with loved ones, then this company should be avoided at all costs. As soon as the economy turns for the better, I will be leaving and they may well have a mass exodus of good people.

Pros

Suffolk spends a lot of money on training and technology, which is great. They are a very ambitious company that is hunting down large scale projects. They are trying very hard to stand out from the competition.

Cons

- Unfortunately with more technology they seem to demand more and more from their employees, some of which are not tech savvy, which makes them reject the notion of using the new technology to the fullest because they simply cannot. - Health benefits are awful. - Suffolk also claims to care about life-work balance of their employees, yet due to competitive bidding of project they always try to woe the potential client by cutting the project schedule, which in turn puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the employees to meet ridiculous schedules. Employees have to work many times on Saturdays and Sundays to meet those schedules. - Suffolk is expanding very rapidly in new regional markets by acquiring regional companies, which naturally leads to company culture clashes. From what I have seen, Suffolk has not attempted to even address those culture clashes that makes transitioning very hard to their competive environment.
