Bullish on Suffolk

Pros

I've been with Suffolk a long time and have seen tremendous growth and maturity. Recently I have seen a more productive approach to geographical diversity through the "export" of Boston based personnel to regional offices which I view as critical to support these growing offices. Our commitment to hiring the best who will succeed in our culture has been great (we used to hire for coverage now we hire for fit). Our Career Start Program is fantastic - the talent level of these future leaders is great. Our commitment (driven by JFF) to work life balance has to be on par with any of our competitors (if you don't like to work hard, then construction management likely is not a great career choice). Our commitment to the community is very strong particularly in advancing opportunities for SBE/WBE/MBE contractors through our development series. I'm also proud of our Giving Circle as well as the amount of volunteerism by our people. The IIF initiative is off to a strong start and I'm confident this will be successful. We are pushing the envelope for innovation - I'm, confident we are outpacing the competition in the areas of VDC / Lean / Alternative Delivery of Services, etc. Construction is fast paced and dynamic. If you want a career with a company where opportunity abounds (be it position or geographical), then Suffolk is a great choice.

Cons

We put a lot of initiative on our plate. We need to be careful not to dilute needed initiatives (IIF, Procore implementation, etc.) by taking on more than we can reasonably handle and efficiently roll out.

Pros

They lure you in with terrific salaries

Cons

You are measured and graded on everything you do. They lack in upper and middle management. They are short staffed and have had a tremendous turnover 17 people on one project in less that 2 years.
