Pros

Many of the people who are director-level or above were excellent in their previous positions, but when promoted, they struggled with the new responsibilities. It created significant challenges, as many promoted hadn’t developed the fundamental skills needed for effective leadership. They struggled with basics like clear communication, providing direction, and supporting the team’s growth, which led to a lack of support, micromanagement, and misalignment. Without the right tools to succeed, it became difficult for the team to stay motivated and cohesive. Over time, it became frustrating for the team. Morale started to drop as opportunities for growth became limited, and it was hard to maintain motivation. I saw how stress levels rose, not because of the workload, but because of the confusion and inefficiency that resulted from leadership struggling in their roles. It’s a tough environment to be in when good people aren’t set up for success.

Cons

The Swoon environment is a misalignment between professed values and actual behaviors. Communication is often inconsistent or misleading, creating an environment of uncertainty and frustration. It's disheartening when communication lacks transparency, making it challenging to trust the organization and its leaders. The prevalence of sycophantic behavior among colleagues was a notable concern. Hard work, honest feedback, and constructive criticism were often overlooked in favor of ingratiating behavior. This dynamic prevents a healthy exchange of ideas and hinders professional growth. It’s deeply disappointing to see talented and loyal individuals laid off, especially when they had contributed so much to Swoon’s previous success. What was even more disheartening was the fact that the real issues stem from leadership. A more balanced approach would have included holding some leaders accountable as well.
