      Pros

      Working with children in small groups is rewarding; compared to classroom teaching. As long as you do this just for fun or experience working in a highly structured teaching environment, it is fine. The "pay" is ridiculous.

      Cons

      Once you figure out that working at Sylvan is all about making your owner money, off your hard work and expensive teaching credential, the fun pretty much goes out of it.

      Pros

      The level of respect you get from management is second to none. They are very supportive and never talk down to employees.

      Cons

      Your schedule is always tentative. They tend to change your hours/shift with very short notices. Sometimes you are even sent home early.

      The program is a positive experience for both its instructors and clients is because it is aligned to state standards.

      Pros

      As an Instructor, I felt that I was really able to make a contribution. As a certified instructor, I was privileged to receive an Intensive program training, ongoing coaching and observation. All my students moved up at least one level (i.e. below-basic to basic, basic to proficient and in a few cases from basic to advanced).

      Cons

      As an instructor, the best part of the program was working with the students and knowing that I played a part in their academic success. The pay could be improved, but bonuses are given for good attendance.
