Pros

You can work with plenty of smart people. They are usually acccesible and ready to help with your problem. You work mostly via your network, not via structures. Your network continuously increases and after a while you can move a lot in the company if you have the energy to do so. Although there is a lot of hierarchy, managers are very approachable. Flexible work hours. Strong values. Good growth plan strengthens purpose (but needs to be better integrated in business model). Very nice location to live.

Cons

In comparison to my previous employer there is a clear lack of structure in Syngenta. Well, the hierarchical structure is there, but you hardly see it in your daily work. This is good because it gives the freedom to work without considering hierarchical level of the people you need to get the job done, but there are also lots of moments, where structure would give the orientation you need. Syngenta is the world champion in outsourcing. This often makes things complicated because there are additional interfaces and unnecessary processes. HR and IT are really weak. Decisions generally take too long (however, this wasn't different at my last employer). Currently it is not exactly clear where Syngenta is steering. Syngenta is owned by China. There is a very limited culture for employees to feel "at home". Safety is not a relevant topic. If you read what makes the "Best places to work" the best places to work, there is a lot missing at Syngenta.
