Not a Healthy Environment

Pros

Flexible hours, ability to work remotely, and offices are currently being renovated.

Cons

TRC prides itself on having an entrepreneurial culture, and while people enjoy the flexibility and low supervision that comes from that, it has created a disjointed workforce with poor communication as the company continues to grow. It makes entire sectors feel entitled over others, and the poor communication creates redundancies in work. Overall, employees are negative. I've never felt inspired or motivated working here. The health insurance is the worst I've ever had, and I've been in this industry for a long time.

Pros

Overall not a bad company.

Cons

Specific office in Chicago was a mess. Too many managers, not enough staff. Not enough work to go around. Sexist comments thrown around. Very disappointed with my time there. Unprofessional.

Some good people, some bad management.

Pros

Some of the most talented people in our field work in this office. A good place to gain experience due to the large pool of highly qualified Engineers, as well as the variety of clients, projects, and disciplines. Regional clients and competitors recognize the company name.

Cons

Some of the least talented people in our field work in the same office, and are a drag on everyone else. People who are capable are expected to work extra hours and carry the load for the entire team, while people who are incapable slack off and go home early. Employees are allowed very little input on the direction of the company, or even the work that they are assigned. If you begin your employment in one department, you become pigeonholed, and that is what you do for the rest of your career because Management does not encourage cross-discipline training. This mindset stifles professional development and reduces opportunities for growth. Pressures from Management to focus on specific departments instead of the entire office creates a contentious work environment. Management values profitability above all else, including client relationships, product quality, and their staff. Salaries and benefits lag behind industry standards.
