In my experience, being an engineer at TTM requires a much more hands-on approach than at many other companies. Most engineers' desks are on the manufacturing floor allowing for a smooth transition from the desk job part of engineering to performing testing on the floor or supporting manufacturing. The work environment facilitates independent thinking for project ideas and process improvements which allows engineers to present, test, and implement their own ideas, not just ideas flowed down from management.
