Pros

The hospital is an exciting place to be akin to a small city. Many "lines of business" and plenty of occupations to work in. Some very nice, caring people.

Cons

In IT, the name of the game is "play the party line." It's not about merit, skills, or knowledge, but sucking up and riding the gravy train that is the hospital doing well financially. They would never make in the non-profit world where ROI matters. IT management here is not about talent but seniority and favoritism.

Little room for growth and no direction given on how to grow More focused on recruiting than retaining Won’t train internally - would rather outsource instead of train to promote loyal employees. Turnover rate in the department is terrible Toxic work environment Over worked, very low pay

Call pay. Benefits. Scheduling flexibility.

Cons

Compensate your existing staff accordingly and stop paying travelers ludicrous AMOUNTS of money for doing the same work. Employee retention lately has been a challenge during the pandemic because of the lack of compensation to permanent staff.
