Pros

Target bases performance and reviews on "leadership dimensions" that empower the employee to lead their own development, soar with their strengths and mitigate opportunities. The format provides for constant self-reflection and observations of self-gaps that causes one to develop professionally faster than they would elsewhere.

Cons

Work-life balance is a problem-especially when management puts a premium on long hours, meetings that take up much of your day, and "busy-work" that takes you away from what is really important--leading your team to exceed goals. Unfortunately in a company this size there is much turnover, at all levels. This causes you to have to "re-prove" yourself to different waves of management about every year or so, and also can play havoc with your career progression as you will get different feedback about your achievements from different leaders.

Pros

Overall, it's not a bad place to work for some extra money---don't feel it is a place to work long-term for most people.

Cons

I wish there was more opportunities for advancement for the employees who already work in the store. The pay isn't great, but what do you expect for an entry-level retail position? Since there are so many employees working different hours, it's hard to get to know co-workers....some days it feels like you are working with a bunch of strangers. I've worked at other retail stores and didn't feel this way. On occasion, you don't always get a lunch break at a reasonable time which is tough if you've been on the register for an extended amount of time and need to use the restroom.

Pros

Awesome working conditions as far as store cleanliness, etc. Various tasks and ways of organizing the sales floor seem to make a lot of sense. Target has put a lot of time and development into making our processes some of the most efficient in the retail industry. Almost everyone who works here seems to be friendly and helpful. Hard work is recognized and rewarded. I would have to say that the organization of management makes more sense than someplace like wal-mart. I also like that senior management as a whole seem skilled at every job in the store. Not much else to say.

Cons

Bleh, lots of strange ways of doing things.
