An amazing place to be

Pros

-Amazing culture: people are extremely warm and passionate about TR’s mission and goals. There are regularly held events to connect with colleagues, and it’s easy to feel like you belong to the team -Ownership mentality: micro-management is not a thing here. You’re encouraged to do your best and be responsible of your projects -IKEA acquisition allows for the cushion of a stable work environment & better funding, but they’re also relatively hands off and allow TR to take the reins of our own goals/product. Overall, it’s been an amazing experience so far. TR has a lot of potential for growth, and we’re on the way to becoming an even better & global product.

Cons

The team is growing quickly, and as a startup there are patches of on-boarding & other processes that need to be refined and better organized.

Thank you for the thoughtful feedback. I love your focus on ownership ... its something that makes TaskRabbit a great place to learn, grow and have a real impact on business outcomes at all levels. I appreciate your feedback on how we can do better at refining our onboarding and other processes. If you have specific ideas, feel free to send those on to me or our People Operations team. We also have an all-company survey going out this Tertial soon, so you can include your suggestions anonymously there too. I'm really glad you are having an amazing experience thus far working at TaskRabbit. Thank you for contributing to the culture!

TaskRabbit is a company with which you can grow

Pros

- Regularly see our Exec team make hard decisions within the framework of our core values. - Our Exec team gives huge amount of transparency; have never had this personally at previous companies. - Strong, neighborly culture. You're coming to work with people who care deeply about doing right by the communities we serve. - Managers care. Let's be clear, managers are humans and no one is perfect, but there's a firm cultural belief in responding thoughtfully to critical feedback. That includes managers responding to feedback from direct reports. There are often skip-level meetings to check that this is going well. - Huge opportunity to be in the driver's seat of your own career. Stressing that you have to be willing to put in the work, seek feedback, and be the driver. That said, I've been here three+ years and have massively changed the scope of my role by looking for emerging business needs and working hard to be the best candidate to take on the new challenges. - Excellent health care package - Great compensation. Again, managers aren't mind readers and you do need to communicate your needs, but I've seen and experienced consistent, sustained hard work being rewarded very fairly. - Lots of cross functional mentorship. If you ask for advice or for someone in another department or someone above you to give feedback or teach you something, I've only ever encountered willingness to teach and share. - The learning series! We had Arianna Huffington come in and give a talk. My personal favorite was a talk by Angela Duckworth, author of Grit: The power of passion and perseverance.

Cons

- This IS a demanding place to work. If you're looking for something easy where you can coast, this might not be the best place for you. If you're looking for a challenge and are willing to put in the work (you have grit, if you will), then I strongly encourage you to apply for one of our open positions!

Thank you for the awesome feedback! I agree that this is definitely a place you can be "in the driver's seat", as you said. Thank you for leveling up as an individual and taking the initiative to learn and grow. I'm glad it's paying off for you...and for all of us. Best Wishes, Laura

Pros

Great office space with lots of perks. Office / culture events are top notch. Great CEO with an inspirational story to tell. Bright engineering and data teams. Diverse team. Some good recent exec hires, including VP Ops, are promising for real change.

Cons

Middle management is highly inept. Lots of false starts, bureaucracy and politics for such a small size company. No direction. IKEA acquisition is still being figured out in terms of fit into strategy so causing a lot of spinning wheels to show movement. Too many tentative hires without a clear team charter. Lots of juvenile behavior on the part of middle management, little management training, lots of middle school level bickering to get work done instead of being data driven, silos already apparent within teams where "XYZ is not my problem unless it's in my OKRs". No real HR or support, C level execs are mostly encouraging and inspiring leaders but are spread far too thin to help run the business operationally; although rapid hiring is meant to improve the situation. Company struggling to adjust to its new pace, not enough muscle to understand high-growth mode whatsoever due to lots of both junior level hires w/ no real world experience AND a long standing exec team that has not experienced navigating growth for sometime. On the floor, it is a punitive environment with no room for error or disagreement on some teams. Disagreement w/ exec will get you in hot water with management, so go with the flow and do as you are told, or else. Lots of hypocrisy and not practicing what middle management preaches, phony baloney proclamations around "Middle Path listening to understand" that in practice are completely misused, management not following through and 1-way communication.
