TCS is top heavy. There was hardly much chance for career growth. In Kolkata TCS was easily the biggest and oldest s/w company - so the easily the most senior people were to be found there. TCS was considered to be a "safe" employer - though recent developments have junked that notion. So what happened was that attrition out of tcs kolkata was very low - which meant that career growth was very limited due to people not moving out. Also the it helped if you were connected to the right people - you needed to have the right connections to get an onsite opportunity.

If you are allocated to a big project one might get stuck there for ages. It becomes really difficult/ or impossible to move out of it. Most of the time policies are against employee benefit. Specially, related to transfers / project switches. Transportation and canteen facilites are not good at some locations. But finally, being such a big company it all depends on where you land here.
