Pros

Really liked the people I worked with. Good volunteer opportunities. Was able to move around within the company and develop different skills.

Cons

First off- it was a “good ole boys” club. The company started doing many many acquisitions and quickly burned through cash. I wasn’t sure what the end goal was because they acquired so many companies. They got involved in a really bad acquisition in 2011 that completely sent the company into a downward spiral and caused a $300m goodwill write off. They ended up selling the company for a fraction of what they bought it for. All the management from my time at Teradata is gone because of that bad acquisition. Victor Lund (new CEO) is another one of the “good ole boys club” and was on the BOD of Teradata before his CEO gig. Recently the Dayton, OH headquarters was told on a whim that everyone would either be relocating to Atlanta or they’d be getting a severance package. Victo Lund brought a bodyguard with him to deliver the news. I left Teradata in 2015 because as I was managing the budgets and the cash, I just knew something was amiss. Every quarter close was a challenge when we never met outlook. We never had good news to deliver. It was always “how are we going to deliver the bad news this time?” Luckily I was offered another job at a much more stable company before everything went too south. But I still feel for those in Dayton because they’re all faced with a tough decision to move or be unemployed.

Pros

They treat their people extremely well. Great products, good people. They seem to understand that the days of the high dollar EDW platform are coming to an end. Cant say enough good things about the people who are at Teradata. They are smart and dedicated.

Cons

Just became part of a reduction in force. They are way too inbred. EVERYONE seems to been there 15 to 30 years. They understand intellectually what they need to do to survive in their market, but they might not understand how to thrive. They have all the pieces they need, but they do not seem to understand how to execute. Lastly, their internal systems are cumbersome antiquated. They need to move to the 21st century with their pricing/quoting systems.

Pros

Solid product. Hot segment in the technology industry. Good co-workers.

Cons

If you consider yourself a bright individual with strong motivation to move up the career ladder, this is not the place to be. This company WILL put sudden brakes to your motivation to go up, creativity, skills, innovative thinking, personal growth. Management do not care for employees. Pay is WELL BELOW what other companies are offering. Bonus is tiny. Management makes you think they are doing you a favor by keeping you at job. Management is incompetent and do not really understand the meaning of "employee satisfaction". They do not encourage and compensate Engineers for their hard work. Lost a lot of good people because of this and this already causing a lot of quality issues in recent releases of Teradata. R&D Management should be replaced before we lose upper edge in the industry.
