Pros

Some offices are good to work for, some are abysmal. If an engineer manages the place, then numbers will dictate policy and common sense will be an afterthought. Benefits were good in 2009 but eroded through the years and by 2013 were fairly expensive.

Cons

Terrible work/life balance. Consider yourself "on-call" if you're a field technician. I received calls as late as 1100pm stating that the next days 7:00am pour had been moved up to 3:00am. In the winter, you will be expected to come into work to see if there is work, rather then simply calling in and saving yourself the commute. Field equipment has lagged behind other companies. Company policy of using 2wd work trucks means you will be going onto icy roads and muddy jobsites with marginal ability to get around. And salaries have lagged behind industry averages for years.

Pros

The work environment is good and fellow employees are all professionals. The benefits are acceptable and the company is very pro-active with regards to safety for its employees.

Cons

There is way too much corporate oversight on projects. It is very difficult to manage projects without interference by management. Budgets are completely unrealistic due to national account managers sealing the projects way too low just to get the work. The project managers are in a thank-less position because there is no accountability above or below. Way too much overhead. There is no room for advancement unless you are a PE.

Pros

Steady work...same all the time

Cons

Little exposure to high caliber work. Firm does not focus core services on highly technical or large contract services. Look for other larger firms that will have good growth models and likely expose you to a higher diversification of services.
