Status quo

Pros

The company offers good benefits and the pay is decent.

Cons

There is no room for advancement. Every employee is treated the same whether they perform well or not. They will pay for your education but offer no opportunities to advance. They would rather hire someone fresh out of college (young) than to promote from within.

Pandering To The Lowest Common Denominator

Pros

Pay is decent. They don’t try to control every aspect of your work life. Yearly bonus, up to 20% of your salary.

Cons

First, and most important, they’ve stopped caring about their employees. If you’re a new hire, your only health insurance option is a high deductible plan. If you started before they cut out real and decent insurance, you are grandfathered in to the old insurance plans. But they are starting to cut out those insurance plans slowly but surely. If you’ve never had a high deductible plan, they are absolutely terrible if you are not in perfect health. A billion dollar company setting record earnings yearly along with major corporate tax cuts recently and they can’t afford decent insurance for their employees? My other issue is that the corporate culture panders to the lowest common denominator for their employees. There are no rewards for being an excellent employee and going above and beyond. You are given the same raises and bonuses as those doing just barely enough to not get fired. There are no consequences for those workers and they continue to do a terrible job and barely work. This brings all those with a modicum of a work ethic down to their level. It doesn’t take a genius to realize this brings the entire company as whole down.

Pros

Well managed company that is very diligent with all resources. Takes only calculated risks. Maintains good growth rate compared to competitors

Cons

Perhaps a little too cautious with new territory innovation. The emphasis on high quality execution is perhaps swinging the pendulum a little too far away from aggressive innovation for growth.
