Pros

If you work in a business, thers's a lot of flexibility in doing your job and maintaining a work/life balance. I enjoy a lot of responsibiity as an individual contributor, am able to make my own decisions. Can join project teams to gain more responsibility and visibility. Compensation/benefits package is good. Many talented co-workers to learn from. Lots of training courses available. Company has very little debt, does not have to answer to lenders. Exciting to see our products take off in the market place.

Cons

At many sites you're responsible for your own career growth, which isn't bad if you're interested in lateral movement but can be difficult if you want want to grow vertically into managment or functional expertise. The company structure is very flat, many opportinities for sideways movement, not many upward. There hs been very little growth in stock value over the years, not much reward from purchasing company stock or being granted stock options. Company can be very micro-managed from top down.

Pros

Good work enviroment; diversity is seen as a business strength; most managers are easy to work with and fair; many people have 10, 15 or 20+ years of experience; respect for the employees and individual contributors; good compensation; fairly good benefits (costs held steady this year for insurance). Overall, I've been happy at TI for a career that has lasted here over fifteen years doing a variety of software support and projects. There have been good opportunities to learn new things and work with the business people around the world.

Cons

At times I've seen people bullied at work by certain managers who are moved around but their behaviour does not get punished in any visible way, despite having an anti-bullying program in the past few years. TI has a very conservative corporate culture and it can be difficult to raise certain topics. Those of us that are more diverse ethnically, religiously, politically etc. may not feel open to discussing topics that bother us in our workplace for fear of reprisal. Women and minorities are promoted but there aren't that many women or minorities in senior management or on the board of directors. There seems to be better representation at the lower levels of management at least in my area of the company.

Pros

Work/Life balance, challenging job roles, a great deal of resposibility as an individual contributor or manager. Opportunities to develop outside of your core funtional area. Somewhat easy to move between business units when opportunities present themselves

Cons

Typical work week is baselined at 50-55 hours and goes up from there. Response time from management on rewards for hard work or project completion are either non-existent or not on the level they should be. In certain areas it seems that 20% of the people are really driving 80% of the execution and performance.
