Don't Walk......RUN From This Company

Pros

The immediate team I worked with was excellent - career CBORDians that were excellent teammates.

Cons

Upper Management - mainly starting with the culture perpetuated by former President Max Steinhardt, and getting progressively worse under new President Jim Hoefflin, have long made it abundantly clear that they DO NOT value people as a company - they feel that you need them more than they need you and it shows in many of the decisions that have been made over the last several years. There are some holdouts that still care about people as more than a spreadsheet, but unfortunately they are not in upper management. The people-first, positive, fun culture started by John Alexander (the founder) is long gone. It has been replaced with a culture of uncertainty and fear of when the hammer is going to drop next. Everyone is miserable almost down to the person because they are being overworked (being asked to do a LOT more with less) and woefully underpaid and under appreciated. In fact, I feel horrible for those who are still there under this regime.......I wish they would realize that there is in fact life after CBORD - and there are so many other companies that actually treat their people like valued assets vs. an easily dispensable commodity. Upper management claims an open door policy, but do nothing to act on feedback provided by those who are actually in the trenches despite being told the same thing over and over again....it's like talking to a wall.

Pros

Working with great people for the most part, but there are elite cliques with big egos Halfway decent hardware to work on

Cons

The new president, Jim Hofflein, is short-sighted and not compassionate. He promoted a person and laid the person off two weeks later. He has been taking a hatchet ever since he came. Massive software development layoff just took place so we are left with on-site staff who only know 15 year old technology and do not want to listen to new ideas. He is ruining our culture.

Pros

The office where I work may be different than the other offices, so keep that in mind, but I am allowed to do my job in peace with little harassment, good PTO schedule, OCCASIONALLY get free food. Most other co-workers are a pleasure to work with.

Cons

The place seems to be self destructing from the inside, the upper management is shady, and dishonest, and everything that goes with that. There really seems to be no direction, or plan for anything beyond sell, sell, sell, whatever the cost. Many products are buggy but get released anyway because of the bottom line. They also pay well below average for the same jobs at other places.
