Pros

Some chefs are knowledgeable and professional

Cons

People above you are petty and shady, you will be threatened at any time and not given clear direction. The direction you do get will be from people who do not understand restaurants.

Pros

I could watch the sunset at Disney.

Cons

This place is a masterclass in toxic workplace culture, wrapped in overpriced desserts and glitter-covered walls. 🔹 Sexual and verbal harassment by management is rampant. Concerns are ignored, and HR is nonexistent. If you speak up, you’re silenced or pushed out. There is zero accountability, especially among upper management. 🔹 Staff are assigned unreasonable amounts of unpaid side work because leadership refuses to hire the hourly support needed. It’s calculated exploitation masked as “high standards.” 🔹 The owner, Gwendolyn Rogers, is wildly disconnected from reality. Decisions are made based on appearances, not safety or sustainability. Image is everything—your well-being is nothing. 🔹 The company boasts about offering health insurance, but the premiums are so inflated, most hourly staff can’t afford to opt in. It’s a benefit on paper only—completely unattainable in practice. 🔹 At their Disney’s BoardWalk Resort location, employees get zero Disney cast member benefits. No discounts, no perks, no access. Yet Gwendolyn is buying annual Disney passes for her managers, while refusing to offer a simple cast member discount in the restaurant—something that would give her entire staff free access to the parks. She knows this, and still chooses to gatekeep that benefit. 🔹 Staff are also forced to pay out of pocket to have uniforms laundered every week, despite being provided ill-fitting clothing. There is blatant disregard for comfort, gender-appropriate sizing, or respect for the individual. I often had to wear oversized men’s shirts two sizes too big because they wouldn’t bother ordering correct sizes for women. This company pushes a dreamy, elegant image to the public, while completely failing the people who make that illusion possible. If you’re considering applying or dining there, know what you’re supporting. Behind the expensive cake and curated Instagram posts lies a culture of fear, favoritism, and exploitation. The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers may look like a fairytale—but for its employees, it’s a nightmare.
