Pros

- Amazing experience for those interested in international affairs, politics, democracy, conflict, and security - Substance heavy work environment with an opportunity for recent grads or current students to offer foreign analysis and research - Meeting Jimmy Carter! - Very organized, structured program with full events, seminars, team building retreats, and even a trip to Plains, GA (Jimmy's hometown) - Prestigious internship--recruiters often ask me immediately about the Carter Center rather than my other experiences

Cons

- Unpaid, could only do it because my parents live in Atlanta - Management can be tangled - Downtime between projects, felt like interns were sometimes under-used and forgotten about (typical, really)

Pros

Incredible field and management experience. You get far more opportunities to make programmatic decisions than you would get working in a program in the US. The management cares, and you have a good amount of autonomy with the team you are working on.

Cons

The lifestyle is constant work with little time off. The work is incredibly rigorous and there are inherent dangers. Communication with fiends and family is very difficult.
