Pros

working with the inmate population-they appreciate people who care, you can really make a difference the facility offers many opportunities for the inmate population to learn skills and help with re-entry charting is not tedious

Cons

poor management, both local and corporate no collaboration between disciplines difficulty providing care due to lack of leadership in some areas work environment dirty, cold and logistics of entry can be difficult. healthcare employees are not valued

Pros

Pay is okay, job is extremely easy (as long as you know how to stay on top of it), if you have a good boss/superior you will thrive.

Cons

Having to cover positions when your boss leaves and looking for a replacement (you will be acting in that position with no extra pay), once that position is filled they try to find a way to fire you in any way possible. Health insurance isn't the best and you pay a lot for it. New boss(s) believe they have to know where you are at at all times when you are working in a massive correctional facility. Expect to give them the time you clock in, go to first break, come back, go to lunch, come back, go to second break, come back, and when you clock out. Imagine having the worst helicopter parent constantly over your shoulder, and expect to train your new boss on how to do their job (as you have been acting in that capacity for a substantial time period). Do not forget that you are replaceable.
