Pros

TNC has a great mission, and it feels good to further that mission. Most of the people in the ranks of regular employees are great to work with and really care about their work. The benefits and leave policies are good and they talk a good talk about treating staff well.

Cons

Leadership has been poor and unstable over the almost ten years that I have worked at TNC. Leaders come and go and are usually hired from outside and do not understand or value the institutional knowledge of longtime employees. Good performance is often rewarded with additional responsibilities to the point of overloading people, and the wrong people are often rewarded with promotions to leadership. The recent Living Our Values initiative to improve workplace culture aims to deal with leadership lack of accountability and poor management at all levels, but nothing has improved in the Marketing Division.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts about your time working at TNC. We’re happy to hear that it felt good to work with great colleagues and further our mission, but I’m sorry to hear about the difficulties you experienced in your division. This is good feedback for us. We are working hard to be transparent and create a positive culture here at TNC while embracing changes. We would like to hear more about your experience and learn about ways we can improve. Please email us at rectuing@tnc.org.

Thank you for your feedback. I feel disheartened about your experience. We want to assure you that TNC is committed to diversity and inclusion. Our senior leadership has recently launched new initiatives to address gender equity and provide more opportunities, engagement and visibility for all women at TNC. This include fellowships, all women Gender Equity Advisory Council and more. We are analyzing our hiring process and ensuring we are focusing on the development of women leadership. As an organization, we are open to discussing challenges we face and ways to improve. This month, there will be a webinar open to all employees about the evolution of gender equity at TNC and will allow for open dialogue. We would be happy discuss any additional feedback and ways to improve. Please contact us at recruiting@tnc.org.
