Pros

Fantastic work/life balance, great pay and benefits that go beyond (but include) the usual, meaningful work, cross-cultural connections, professional development, local and global reach

Cons

Somewhat of a large bureaucracy, state chapters can be a little silo'd from the World Office, good work ongoing but still very much to be done in respect to diversity/equity/inclusion.

Pros

People are dedicated to the mission and ready to help

Cons

The organization operates from a poverty mentality even though there is money available for office supplies - low level staff are expected to hunt for bargain travel, while higher level staff spend whatever amount on travel

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. TNC is truly lucky to have such dedicated staff and members. There are financial guidelines, procedures and vendor arrangements that are in place to manage things such as office supplies. We would like to discuss any procedures that may need improvement. Please contact us at recruiting @tnc.org with further feedback.

Disappointing

Pros

The Nature Conservancy is a great organization at a regional and national level. It is at some of the local chapter levels where lack of accountability is a serious issue.

Cons

Office culture is so critical to success. When I joined the local chapter, I met resistance to new ideas, ranging from increasing visibility to becoming a more diverse organization. Silos, resentment of new ideas, rejection of external input and an obsession with fundraising hurt the organization.
