Good Pay for a Good Cause

Pros

You can get paid (well) to better your community and even squeeze in a little exercise. Lots of good energy from all involved. Many bonus and growth opportunities. The interview is pretty much a cake walk. Pretty great place for a temporary gig.

Cons

Could greatly benefit from being more organized. Could also use a little more flexibility in scheduling (i.e. having more part-time opportunities)

Unorganized, unsafe, late pay

Pros

20 an hour to start

Cons

After I left the company it took over five weeks of emails and phone calls in order to receive a check which ended up bouncing. I finally received payment via PayPal minus the returned check fee and multiple overdraft charges. They sent canvassers to unapproved locations. Employees were chased off, screamed at, and physically threatened. Directors in charge of assigning turf never scouted the locations first or asked permission. Directors and team leaders were frequently late or absent from meetings. We were told to canvass stealthily in parking lots with a clip board approaching people as they exit the store or enter their cars which made it impossible to practice social distancing during a pandemic

Ridiculous

Pros

Never knew. Their communication was awful, and what they put me through was worse.

Cons

I interviewed with the Outreach Team and was offered a job on the spot. Sounds great. I made my arrangements to move to the location of the campaign. The day before I was supposed to start my 16-hour drive there, I get a call saying that I will no longer be starting on that date and that the date has moved two and a half weeks forward. Great. I'm out $300 on an Airbnb, but I still have a job then and should be able to make things up in a week's worth of work. Flash forward to today, 3 days before I'm supposed to make the trip down, I get another call informing me that actually, I won't be hired at all because I'm out of state. This is insane. I spent $1000 reserving an AirBNB for a 39 day stay, knowing that I would be able to quickly make it up and make a difference in the campaign. Then they flip it on me and hang me out to dry. An employer who cares about their image and employees would never do something like this. They lead me to believe I had a job and put me out $1,000 as a student and in the middle of the pandemic. Unacceptable.
