Pros

Some of the nicest people in Silicon Valley . There is so much to learn here, and enormous opportunity to grow. The opportunity to expand beyond your role is huge- if there is something that you want to acheive, there is nothing to stop you.

Cons

Parking in the neighborhood can be challenging

Pros

Made some good friends. Got to see some beautiful sunrises driving to work.

Cons

Low pay Lack of respect from management Lack of critical thinking from management CEO is poor decision maker/out of touch with the rest of the company No time off, common to work 6 days a week, forever Zero concern for employee safety, morale or general well being Only accept a position here if desperate, then immediately start looking for something else.

Pros

+ Decent amount of cool, interesting, friendly, social people still worked there when I left. I would rank this as one of the primary reasons for staying here as long as I did. It's nice to spend the best part of your day with people you like and feel connected to. + Free lunch 4 days a week, breakfast on Fridays + Free coffee / tea + Pay isn't terrible if you're in a desk job type department. + Fairly relaxed workplace. The place is pretty empty by 6:00 PM. + Always something new going on or in the works, it's hard to ever be bored here. + Job security seems above average. Not many people are suddenly fired or laid off. Happens, but usually unwanted employees are just kind of managed out until they get the idea and everyone breathes a collective sigh of relief that they are gone without any drama.

Cons

Location is terrible. It could be worse, but it's nothing to show off. A free shuttle helps, but you basically either need a car, some strong legs and a bike, a million dollars in Uber credit, or a lot of patience on public transportation to work here. The area is not safe at night. Very few attractive lunch or coffee options in this neighborhood as it is an industrial ghetto. New location is in the works but it is uncertain where. The company has a very corporate structure with many organization charts, directors, VPs, etc and a lot of red tape. There are still definitely some enjoyable agile moments where you can just throw a few people together from different departments and figure out the solution really quickly and informally, but things progress towards more management, more oversight, less creativity. Lately the company has been saying 'we're a startup!' to justify any sort of poor working conditions. I'll just say that most people that work their bottom off at a startup have significantly more equity than the average employee at The RealReal Promotion from within does not seem to be a corporate maxim. Many times positions open up above people, and outsiders will be brought in to fill the senior positions. While there are many good reasons to do this, I can say certainly that is does not bode well for preservation of original culture. Yearly reviews only during the month of April, and you will be denied this if you did not start within 6 months of April. This is the only time you can get a raise. I think people would be more engaged if the reviews came more frequently.
