      So much potential for greatness, but mired by misguided management

      Pros

      Competitive salary Some very smart engineers work here Good work/life balance Good health insurance Room for career advancement (if you make yourself visible)

      Cons

      Lack of coordination across departments Internal politics keep teams from using a consistent process for software development Management focused on getting a release out the door at the expense of creating technical debt, which makes products hard to maintain Too much reliance on outside contractors for important work

      Things have changed at TiVo

      Pros

      Lots of interesting work. Family oriented gatherings on site several times a year. Good medical and dental benefits. Employee discounts on new models of TiVo. Free coffee, tea, and milk.

      Cons

      Too much work on too many projects with insufficient coordination. Quality was once the top priority but now it is schedule and features. Recent layoffs of about 25 experienced employees were done wih no notice and in secrecy. If asked, senior management said, "They just left".
