Toxic Work Environment, Zero company culture

Pros

Smart people around you, people are genuinely there to work hard. Being in a hyper-growth innovative company.

Cons

Terrible Sales Leadership- not only are they the least compelling leaders I’ve ever seen, they gaslight and manipulate employees into believing the toxic work conditions are normal. There is zero space to have a differing opinion than the cis white males in the room, and the company itself gives nothing to employees. No perks, terrible office conditions (Austin is the worst), being tracked by China. Everyone works in silos, collaboration is non-existent. Stay far away from this place.

Pros

The work pace is fast, and everyone has a great deal of room to perform.

Cons

1. Please note that this is a company led by Chinese! In some requirements review meetings, they even conducted the meeting directly in Mandarin. So if you don't understand Mandarin, don't go. 2. The transparency of information is very poor. For example, the appointment of the leadership is highly opaque, and these Chinese leaders are not interested in achieving transparency. Many suggestions have been given, but no improvements have been made. This may be a deeply ingrained cultural habit. 3. Again, please note that it is difficult to get promoted if you are not Chinese. They basically transfer leaders from Bytedance in China to the United States, so never expect to advance in your career. 4.You need to adapt to having meetings with Chinese colleagues at night.

Pros

-Product is amazing, best in class for short form video - fast paced environment - lots of opportunity to try and learn new things - great people

Cons

- leadership for some orgs can be toxic or non-transparent - some leaders will try to force you out so you don't write bad performance review about them - some orgs will expect you to work long hours and not mention it in interviews (working as late as 10PM or later) - employee benefits are seriously behind Google, Meta, Linkedin - lots of red tape on approvals that need to get approved in Beijing/Singapore - compensation for some roles are not competitive to the talent market in silicon valley, most notably sales - sales reps at TikTok are extremely underpaid, commissions are capped, and target setting by rev ops/sales ops is hit or miss. Most times its a miss and you'll end up with insane quotas to hit with no opportunity to make it up in later quarters since there is a commission cap -additionally, folks that are on the largest accounts at TikTok booking the most money are put on a compensation/accelerator incentives that are the same as folks in Growth or much smaller accounts. It's not sustainable for keeping high quality sales talent long term.
