Pros

- remote but this is really a con because there is no work/life balance

Cons

- unorganized leadership - toxic work environment - no work/life balance and they are proud of it Honestly not sure how they have such a high rating. If I could give 0 stars, I would. For starters, always avoid a company where the VPs down talk the CEO frequently!!!! The CEO is arrogant, rude, and has no respect for his employees. Unfortunately, the stress of his inability to lead trickles down to upper management which creates a work environment so toxic, people fight to obtain positions they are not happy in. This company may claim they are in hypergrowth but they are not, they are rapidly failing in an industry they cannot compete in. Don't fall for the remote aspect, you will be overworked and underpaid. Don't fall for the unlimited PTO, you will be reprimanded for requesting days off. I asked for a mental health day and my manager told me no because I did not meet quota. In addition, international employees are the backbone of the company yet receive no real benefits. Do yourself a favor, for your sanity, and stay away.

Pros

Having been in the workplace for over 20 years this is a company that values their employees, gives them the tools for success and truly has developed a unique culture of integrating work and life. I have worked for Toptal over a year and have found that unlike any other company I have worked for they have excellent communication channels and truly embrace management/peer/subordinate feedback in both directions. I have great benefits, compensation, and room for growth that is encouraged. I have literally found my dream job and employer.

Cons

Toptal has high standards and expectations for their employees and they should not settle for anything less. It affects the morale of a team when one member is allowed to perform at a sub-standard level for extended periods of time.

Pros

The remote environment. Its the one thing they hinge on you can work from anywhere.

Cons

I will start off by saying Toptal is an incredibly litigious company. The legal department has no moral or impartial stance to represent the company as a whole. They view themselves as Taso’s personal counsel. The Executive staff follows suit. I get it, its his company but its 2022 and corporate responsibility also includes the CEO and executives looking out for the company as a whole and not Tasos mood of the day. They refuse to have a board of directors and have never let an auditor in the door. Its not the exact same because Thankfully peoples lives aren’t at stake but the head GC and CEO might as well be the tone of Enron or Elizabeth Holmes. All you need to do is google and you can see all the nonsense around them legally. Im probably risking my own situation by posting this but there is no hotline for me to call and report this all to. Company Culture - Toptal grasps at straws in this day and age that they are a fully remote workforce. There are many pros and cons for working in an office vs remote but what I will say is Toptal champions its culture in a remote environment. I guess culture is just a title and can go either way. Let me describe Toptals culture for you There are employee happiness surveys put out they are NOT anonymous. If you dare put less than happy you will be confronted by HR If you upset someone theres is no informal or formal feedback system, people can easily go to the people team and say “I want them gone because they’re not a good team member” and like that they are gone. If you are a freelancer it is not a big deal but if you are used to a corporate environment say google, meta any company Toptal is trying to be just know that it is not the case. You buy your own laptop put your own anti-virus software on it and are responsible for any IT hardware issues. They have very little IT security and they are constantly having trouble with phishing campaigns where employees don’t really know what to do when they happen and the IT department doesn’t have a good process for them either. Since my time at Toptal when things started to make me uncomfortable I have been trying to look for an employee hotline or something. Just because this is a private company doesn’t mean people need to be treated like dirt.
