Management is in very much a state of flux these days as they scramble to figure out why the company is not profitable and whose fault it is. There does not seem to be anyone at the helm. Consequently, there is no upward mobility, still very much a good 'ol boys club and the turnover is super high. No pay or any kind of compensation for overtime as a salary staff person, and you will work a lot of overtime. Benefits package is average and slipping to below average. Ideas are not appreciated as the ol' grizzeled managers seem to know it all. Very dis-trusting environment, very poor people skills on the part of most managers, no cross communication for best practices between yards. The younger supervisors and managers want to communicate, but the established older ones do not want to let anyone know what they are doing. It's all about me and mine. Maintenance? What maintenance. If it ain't broke, don't fix it metality and they keep using inferior equipment and wonder why it keeps breaking. Managers are very much into pointing the finger instead of improving procedures and processes. Engineering dept very slow to implement improvement projects. Safety is given due lip service but the program has no teeth as can be seen by the number of customers they routinely injure.
