Pros

Trader Joe's hires wonderful people. Truly, the crew is an extended family. I love going to work everyday and look forward to seeing my friends. Opportunity to connect with the community happens everyday. With a backround in food I love the fact that I get to talk shop everyday. It is so exciting to introduce customers to new ingredients, recipies, or cooking techniques.

Cons

Once you are hired on as a part time crew member it is almost imposible to move up to a full time crew member. You may have a B.S. in management, A.S. in Culinary Arts, years of experiance as a manager, the blessing of the entire part time crew, and the desire but that is no guarantee that you will be taken seriously about going full time. The pay is not that great at the part time level and there is also no guarantee that you will be schedualed 40 hours a week. This fact leaves part time crew members trying to support their families in a very diffecult position.

Pros

The crew and customers are overall likable, fun people. It's nice to have a physical job and not sit behind a desk. Compensation is great at the full-time level. Employees have much more control over daily time than at the part-time level.

Cons

Management and store changes - once you're full-time, you work for the company and can be transferred to nearby stores. It's very difficult to let someone go - if am employee doesn't break any rules, but consistently turns in a poor performance, they can still be around for a looong time, especially if they don't mind not getting a lot of hours or a good raise. The company is very secretive, both to the media and others and within. This leads to lots of gossip and drama that could be avoided.
