Pros

- good pay if you are from a third world country. I more than doubled the salary of working in the top companies of the region - AI and AWS focused, can give you some actually useful tools and knowledge for the next job search

Cons

- in my opinion the worst disadvantage is not the constant monitoring itself, as mentioned by other posters, but the boredom of the daily tasks and the pressure of doing them quickly, despite having to work in codebases from ages ago full of tech debt. I had to take some breaks during the day to think of the stuff I was working on. However, as we were monitored, I had to pause the tracker. Then I had to compensate later on the day or in the weekend. You may think it’s my fault, but I’ve seen my whole team working on a Sunday evening, so it’s definitely commonplace - long day hours + you barely talk to teammates (autonomy is an important trait for the job) = no social life = faster burn out from the job - monitoring: full screen recording, mouse and keyboard tracker, webcam shot every 10 minutes. When I left, they were feeding this to an AI, who knows what for. My manager didn’t use this to micro manage, but I guess there must a be a few that do - high churn, don’t expect any job security - convoluted promotion scheme. When I left, I fulfilled the requirements for a promotion, but I needed a year on the current role I was on, then I needed to fulfill some hidden performance metrics and then I would be in a trial period in the new role for some months or something, where I’d still be paid my previous salary and only if I fulfilled the metrics for the new role I would be paid the extra salary of the trial period. Ridiculous

Pros

The technical challenges of the project I worked with were exciting. I learned a lot using cutting-edge technologies and platforms, even though the product was built upon an outdated framework with a convoluted and poorly documented code base.

Cons

No team values, no leadership, no concern for well-being and humane needs.
