      Pros

      Tripadvisor offers a good starting salary. They also offer the option to work remotely.

      Cons

      Despite the fact that Tripadvisor offers a good starting salary, their annual salary increases are meager. However, my biggest concern with Tripadvisor is their clear and repeated demonstration of how they do not value a majority of their employees. In large department meetings, management always recognizes the same handful of individuals and leaves everyone else in the dust. They fail to acknowledge (or possibly don't care about) contributions that other members on the team make. I've had multiple discussions with management expressing a strong desire to take on additional responsibilities and advance, but the answer is always "no". Rather than allowing their employees to grow to where they can promote from within, they hold their employees down and hire new people to take advanced positions instead. As unfortunate as it is, I see no future for myself with Tripadvisor.

      Ok short term employment

      Pros

      Almost 100% remote work, you can form close relationships with your team, summer flex time in addition to PTO.

      Cons

      Managers don't know how to manage and have no training before being promoted, not a lot of room for growth, they will have mass layoffs just to rehire all the positions months later, either you will be overworked or have nothing to do, the executive team and new CEO are unrealistic and bringing teams down.

      Pros

      Good manager, good time. Bad manager, bad time. But if you make a few friends, they'll help you figure out who the good managers are, and from there, lateral movement isn't too hard. Very easy to put in 40h and hang up your hat, though. Work from home transition was very smooth, too.

      Cons

      Product lacks vision and engineering leadership is too happy to spend millions of dollars of engineering resources chasing weak product ideas. Meanwhile core functionality (like faster pageloads so customers can even USE the website) languish.
